Jiang Xiya
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English (Admitted in AY2023-24)
My name is Jiang Xiya. I enrolled at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong in 2023, majoring in English, and I am currently a Year 3 student. I am from Suzhou, Jiangsu.
I chose to study in Hong Kong because of the city’s vibrancy and abundant opportunities. As an international platform that blends Eastern and Western cultures, Hong Kong allows me to explore my direction with a broader perspective.
I chose The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong because of its liberal education philosophy. In addition to my major courses in English, I am required to take electives from different disciplines, which has broadened my knowledge base. What I value most is the small-class teaching approach, where the classroom atmosphere is open and relaxed, allowing students to speak freely and engage in in-depth discussions with lecturers.
Campus life at HSUHK is also rich and fulfilling. During my first two years, I lived in the on-campus residential college and participated in various college-organised activities, such as visiting the elderly during Mid-Autumn Festival, hiking trips and outdoor team activities. These experiences were not only enjoyable, but also allowed me to gain deeper insights into the city’s culture and lifestyle under the guidance of teachers. Through these experiences, I gradually adapted to the environment and made friends from diverse backgrounds.
As a Mainland student newly arrived in Hong Kong, I initially found it challenging to adapt. Fortunately, the faculty and staff at HSUHK have always been friendly and supportive, offering help in both academic and daily life. This journey taught me that an open mindset and genuine support are the best bridges for overcoming cultural differences. What HSUHK has given me is not only knowledge, but also a caring and inspiring space for personal growth.
